If your family is not ready to put Halloween away, the Fort Wayne Zoo has one more weekend of costumes, treats and animals before its season ends.

Zoolooween wraps up this weekend, and the zoo's own calendar lists the final day as Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visit Fort Wayne's weekend calendar lists the event on both Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31.

Because the listings differ slightly, confirm Friday hours with the zoo before you make the drive.

What to expect on the final day

The closing celebration is themed No Tricks, Just Treats, according to WOWO.

Trick-or-treat stations are set up around the Central Zoo, and children are invited to wear costumes.

There will be no magic show on the last day, even though a magician performed on the first four Saturdays.

Earlier weekends carried themes such as Superhero Weekend, Pirates and Princesses and Witches and Wizards.

The zoo describes the event as merry, not scary, with Keeper Chats, Halloween-themed enrichment for the animals, treats and costumed characters.

Tickets and planning

Visit Fort Wayne lists admission at $24 for adults and $22 for children, with ages 1 and under free.

Zoolooween activities are included with regular admission, and zoo members do not pay extra.

The zoo is at 3411 Sherman Blvd., and its season is scheduled to run through Oct. 31, according to the opening-day announcement.

Last year's event page said guests 13 and older could not wear costume masks or hoods, so check this year's costume rules before you leave home.

Much of the visit is outdoors, so dress in layers.

Fitting in the rest of Halloween

Zoolooween ends at 3 p.m., which leaves time to get home before Fort Wayne's official trick-or-treat window of 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Families who want hockey instead can catch the Komets' 3 p.m. game with its on-ice costume parade, though it overlaps with the zoo.

Trunk-or-treat events also begin Friday, Oct. 30, according to the Waynedale News.

What comes next

After Halloween, the zoo moves on to its holiday season, with Wild Lights beginning Nov. 13, according to WOWO.

The zoo announced its fall lineup in September, and the 21-and-older Beastly Bash on Oct. 23 has already passed.

Visit Fort Wayne's Halloween guide lists more family-friendly options around town.

The Journal Gazette's weekly calendar also notes Zoolooween weekends with characters and trick-or-treating.

Hours, prices and event details can change.

Confirm everything with the zoo at 260-427-6800 or FWZoo.com before you go.
